Homework Time

Sinead Mooney (Kelly, Aimee and Jack)

I am a mother of 3 children whom all started in the Wombles nearly 2 years ago. It was recommended to me by my sister who also had her son there. Staying at home is not an option for me but knowing that my children are attending the Wombles certainly makes it easier to work and feel 100% confident that the children are all being very well looked after.

I find the staff at the Wombles very professional and caring. It is like a home from home for my three children. Academically the children are thriving in school and socially they have built a great confidence in themselves and amongst their piers.

The children always have good things to say when they are collected in the evening and I am bombarded with fun filled stories of what they have done in crèche. They are well stimulated with the activities and programme that the Wombles have in place and overall I can honestly say my children are happy which as a mother is so important.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff in the Wombles for all their help.

Our daughter Emilie was just gone 12 months old when she joined The Wombles Crèche, I have to say the staff at The wombles made leaving Emilie much easier than I thought. It's a difficult time going back to work and trusting someone else to mind your child doesn't come easily but I didn't have any concerns, I was kept updated on Emilie's progress on a daily basis. Emilie is now 5 ½ years old and still attends The Wombles on their afterschool programme (she loves it!).

Our son Jack (11 months old) first joined The Wombles at 6 months and he loves it, he has a big cheeky smile for the girls each morning. He's a happy content little boy.

I feel The Wombles has contributed greatly in our children's development and I would have no hesitiations in recommending The Wombles Crèche to anyone.

Catherine and Conor (Colm)

Colm was born in April 2012 and by June of that year, the advice from all angles had started to arrive about childcare options. Myself and my husband Conor, having no experience in this area whatsoever, started to look at childcare in the local area. I remember the first time I went to Wombles.

The place was calm; there were no children crying and all of the children seemed to be happy. I was impressed. Conor came with me the second time and he agreed with me. We still felt though, that we were taking a huge risk. We didn't know any of the staff and didn't know anyone else who had sent their children to Wombles. We just had a hunch that this was the right place for Colm, the most precious thing in our lives.

The first morning I left Colm in, I did have a certain panic about leaving him there, but that is where my panic ended. Monica and Liz were so good, calm and gentle with Colm (and with Conor and I – we were all getting used to our new lifestyle!).

As he has progressed through the various stages in the crèche, Colm has had the best care we could possibly have wished for. He is welcomed every morning by Bernadette and the wonderful staff who are so understanding - especially on the mornings when Colm is a little clingy and needs some persuasion to let go of my hand.

They have instilled confidence in both myself and Conor since day one. I have no doubt that Colm is very happy there. I still rarely hear the sound of children crying and always feel the children are treated well by all staff who always seem to have a smile on their face.

Colm is a social child and he has learned so much about playing with others, learning to share, making the most amazing arts and crafts and singing the most amazing songs with complicated actions!

Communication between the crèche and myself has been excellent and any time Colm has been out sick, I always feel there is genuine concern for Colm and a desire to know that he is doing ok.

I guess when writing a review like this it is good to acknowledge a weakness but, to date, we have found none and I believe this will be the case for as long as we are associated with Wombles Crèche. Thank you to you all for all of the kindness shown to Colm.

Pauline and George Carroll (Ceara & Susan)

Our eldest daughter Ceara started with The Wombles in 1999 and we have been associated with them ever since. She loved going to the crèche, and missed it terribly when she left it after seven years. When our youngest daughter Susan arrived, there was no question but that she too would attend. She has settled in well and enjoys mixing with the other children. We enjoy listening to her telling us about her day, what she did, what she had to eat and her stories about the occasional outings, the speech and drama, the costume days and other special times throughout the year. She always enjoys her time both in the crèche and outside in the garden.

We found that over the years the staff have been very helpful and friendly, always interested in our daughters world, and in many ways becoming almost like family themselves. We enjoy seeing the younger staff working so enthusiastically with the children, but we also found the more mature staff, many of whom had reared their own children, were a great reassurance to us, especially in the early years when our children were little and we needed to know that they were safe, well fed and happy when we were not with them.

The crèche helped prepare both our daughters for school. Formally through Montessori but also by bringing the children on the school bus with the older children and even having pretend "break time" and lunch boxes, just like the big kids do. In fact, one of the most valuable services The Wombles supply, is the "school run" where they drop off and collect the children from school. Vital when the school has early closing days or when we needed to be at work early. Although luckily, we rarely need our daughter to have breakfast in the crèche, it was always a great comfort to know that it was available. We enjoy walking in each morning and catching the aroma of what's on the menu that day. Its always well-balanced and is responsible for our youngest daughters passion for chicken curry of all things. However, try as we might, we can never get the staff to give us a bacon sandwich on the way to work!

We would have no hesitation in recommending The Wombles Crèche to other parents. They are always open to comments and suggestions. Always genuinely interested in us, and should we have any worries or fears, they are always available to hear them, and to lay them to rest. While we still have some time before we are finished with The Wombles, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and to wish them all the best for the future.

Sonia and Wayne Whelan (Ryan & Abi)

It was back in 2001 when i was first introduced to The Wombles. My son Ryan was then 3 years of age. He was very introvert and did not mix well socially. My sister's son was attending The Wombles at the time and highly recommended I place him there before he entered Primary school. During the year and a half he attended, he became a different child. He was outgoing and developed a very early talent for art. When it came to attending primary school he was well prepared socially and academically thanks to the time he had spent at The Wombles.

My daughter Abi was born in 2003 and following my maternity leave I, like any mother, was very apprehensive about returning to work and leaving her in full time care, however my first thought was The Wombles. Thankfully Miriam, Liz and the staff took Abi under their wings and she has been there ever since. Abi loves going to the crèche every day, she smiles going in and smiles coming out, which is very important for any parent. They are always trying to improve by adding extra curricula such as speech and drama, Gymboree sessions etc.. and the playground is a fun place for a child of any age. The staff are very friendly and approachable and under the guidance of Miriam and Liz provide a safe, healthy and happy environment for all the children that attend.

Kerrie O Byrne (Cian)

My son Cian has been attending The Wombles Crèche for over 3 years now. Like every working mother it is so important to ensure that your child is happy and looked after while you are at work. In The Wombles the staff are fantastic, very helpful and understanding, and Cian has come on in leaps and bounds and he will be so prepared for when starting school in September.

I consider myself very lucky to be able to go to work every day knowing that Cian is so happy going to The Wombles so much that he skips going up the path. The receptionist in our office has two children and has taken my advice and placed them in The Wombles. She has even commented on how much advanced they have become and more confident.

I'm very glad to have been given the opportunity to express my feelings and would like to thank in particular Miriam and Liz for all their help.

Joanne and Paul Gilson (Hannah)

Our daughter Hannah joined The Wombles when she was 5 months old. Leaving your child to go back to the work force can be an upsetting and stressful time, but the staff at The Wombles were very comforting. They kept me informed of everything on a daily basis (and still do), so I felt I was not in the dark about her progress.

Hannah will be 4 years old soon and she has grown into a confident, intelligent little girl. I believe that The Wombles has had a lot to do with her advancing so quickly.

I would have no doubts in my mind to recommend The Wombles to anyone.
